SHORELINES
In Shorelines I’m drawn to the quality of the light, the sculpted forms and the action of the water against the rocks and sand. At times the environment is rough, dangerous and foreboding and so intense that after a short while making images I have to leave. While at other times there is an immense sense of peace and calm, lulling one into a false sense of tranquility.
Rock forms are the result of years of continuous erosion while the abstract sand patterns often vanish or are recreated in a matter of days or hours. Trees are as edgy as the rocks, fighting hard to exist in an environment that bends and bleaches them into submission. The shorelines in this portfolio are not accessible nor are they particularly people friendly. Pristine beaches must often be enjoyed from a distance.
